Asking for the Bill
Oss! Day 7. You finished eating. How do you ask for the bill in Japan? It's not what your textbook taught you.
お会計お願いします
Means "Bill please." Wave the staff over with a small hand gesture, then say it. You: すみません、お会計お願いします! Staff: はい、〇〇円です〜!
カードで大丈夫ですか?
"Is card OK?" Some places are CASH ONLY. Especially small ramen shops. You: カードで大丈夫ですか? Staff: あ、現金のみです〜. "現金のみ" means "cash only." Save this word.
別々で
Means "separate checks." Splitting with a friend? You: 別々でお願いします! Staff: かしこまりました〜! Note: small restaurants might say "一緒で〜" (together only). Be ready.
