Where Is...?

Oss! Day 2. The phrase that will save you in every Japanese train station.

〜はどこですか?

Means "Where is 〜?"

Real-world template

You just need 1 word + はどこですか? トイレ + はどこですか?= "Where's the bathroom?" 駅 + はどこですか?= "Where's the station?" コンビニ + はどこですか?= "Where's the convenience store?"

Real conversation

You: すみません、トイレはどこですか? Local: あ、あそこです!(points) You: ありがとうございます! Even if you don't catch every word, just follow the pointing. Japanese people LOVE helping lost travelers.

Pro tip

Don't fully understand the answer? Just say: "すみません、もう一回?" = "Sorry, one more time?" They'll slow down or point harder.
