Walking Into a Restaurant
Oss! Day 3. The first 30 seconds of every Japanese restaurant. What they ask, what you answer.
The scenario
You walk in. Staff yells: いらっしゃいませ〜！ Then they ask one question: 何名様ですか？(How many people?)
Your answer
Just hold up fingers + say the number + 人 (にん). 1 person: 一人です (ひとりです) 2 people: 二人です (ふたりです) 3 people: 三人です (さんにんです) 4 people: 四人です (よにんです)
Full exchange
Staff: いらっしゃいませ〜！何名様ですか？ You: 二人です！(holding up 2 fingers) Staff: かしこまりました〜、こちらへどうぞ！
Bonus: counter seat OK?
If they say カウンターでもいいですか？= "Counter seat OK?" You: はい、大丈夫です！= "Yes, fine!"
